“中医名词考证与规范”是科技部科技基础性工作专项重点项目“中医药基础学科名词术语规范研究”核心研究成果。本书分为603篇专论，对1200余条中医重点、疑难名词术语进行深入考证研究，从溯源考证、科学内涵诠释等方面提出规范的正名。每篇专论以主要名词为标题，依次分为规范名、定名依据、同义词、源流考释、文献辑录、参考文献等内容。“中医名词考证与规范”不仅对中医名词术语中英文进行了统一与规范，还追本溯源，对每个名词的定名依据进行了系统的文献梳理与翔实的考证。本卷为《总论、中医基础理论》分册，考证规范名词154篇，其中总论2篇，中医基础理论152篇，所收名词包括中医总论、阴阳五行、脏腑经络、气血津液、病因病机等方面的基本词语，由河南中医药大学等单位参加考证。本卷可供中医教学、科研和临床工作者参考使用，亦可作为中医专业的本科生和研究生学习参考书目

为了适应中医药名词规范的需要，2000年8月国家成立了全国科学技术名词审定委员会中医药学名词审定委员会，挂靠中国中医研究院（中国中医科学院前身）。全国科学技术名词审定委员会是经国务院授权，代表国家进行科技名词审定、公布和管理的权威性机构。因而，经中医药学名词审定委员会所审定的中医药学名词术语将对中医药学科及行业具有权威性和约束力，全国各科研、教学、生产、经营，以及新闻出版单位都要遵照使用。
